OSULA is proud to announce the 2007-08 scholarship winners. Each student will receive a $1,000 towards their education at OSU. Congratulations to Bobby, Kierstin and Amanda!
Robert Alves
Robert Alves is a freshman engineering student at Ohio State University. In June, he graduated from La Canada High School with a 3.7 GPA. Bobby was active in Boy Scout Troop 501 and received his Eagle Scout award in May of 2007. For all four years in high school, Bobby was on the golf team and he played tenor saxophone in the La Canada High School marching band. His senior year, Bobby was the captain of the golf team and helped lead them to an undefeated season. Bobby has been very into sports his entire life. When Bobby was a little boy, he always liked to watch baseball, developed a love for the Dodgers and wanted to play professional baseball someday. Later in his life, Bobby discovered football and basketball and began to follow these sports, too. Sports was one of the main reasons that he chose to attend The Ohio State University. Since Bobby came to OSU, he has become a big Buckeye fan. He has season tickets to the football and basketball games and he also atte nded some volleyball and soccer games. He is very excited to be a student at Ohio State and to know that he'll be a Buckeye for life.
Kierstin Williams
I first began high school at Flintridge Preparatory School in La Canada, California. Realizing my desire to dance, however, I auditioned for and was accepted into the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts in Los Angeles, California. Though I applied to several colleges/universities during my senior year, The Ohio State University was the school I was accepted into first, and one that I was particularly drawn to: I accepted! Now that the first quarter is finally over, I can say that I made the right decision. I love the school spirit, the classes, and of course, the people that I have come to know so well. Now all I have to do is get through this freeing winter that's about 40 degrees below what I am used to, and all will be ok!! :-)
